In the film, the captain
speeds the ship up because a man said
that it would make headlines and make
the captain a hero. Although this did
actually happen, the main reason is
that the one of the boilers below had
exploded. - casamann

Correction:
Wwhat???? Captain Smith was going
fast to try and break a record.
There has never been any information
that a boiler exploded ( in reality
or in the movie ). there was a coal
fire in one of the coal bunkers
that someone theorized had exploded
and contributed to the sinking but
Dr. Ballard and subsequent expeditions
found no evidence of the explosion.

Correct me if I'm wrong,
but at the part when the titanic is
sinking, and the grand staircase is
filling with water, it's sucking people
through the windows. Now at one point,
you hear a very familiar scream, you
then see a dark-haired man being pulled
by the current towards the statue at
the base of the grand staircase; which
he grabs and holds on to when it does
a semi-close up on him. I believe that
this man is the famed comedian, Adam
Sandler. Supposedly, many of the extras
in this film were actual Hollywood stars.
Like I said, correct me if I'm wrong.

Comment:
I have heard the same. Correct me
if I'm wrong but after the ship has
sunk and the lifeboats turn around
to look for any survivors, one of
the dead people in the water looks
like Harrison Ford. Again correct
me if I'm wrong. If this is him, its
where one of the crew in the lifeboat
starts picking up people and moving
them, its one of the people right
next to the boat. - Ashley

I'm not sure if I'm
right on this, but I heard it somewhere.
After the scene where Rose and Jack
had returned the screaming boy to his
father down the flooded hallway and
the water breaks through the doors,
it shows them turning down the next
hallway, trying to escape from the rushing
water in slow motion. This "Rose"
and "Jack" running down the
hall are not suppose to be the original
"Rose" and "Jack"
played by Winslet and DiCaprio, but
their stunt doubles. I have a hard time
believing this, and if they did have
other people playing the roles for that
scene, I have to say they would have
been virtual clones. - kyara
-
Correction:
On the subject of Rose and Jack
running down the hallway with
water chasing them, it is, in
fact, their stunt doubles. The
faces of Leo DiCaprio and Kate
Winslet were digitally inserted
over the stunt doubles faces in
post production. - Andy
-
Comment:
In the disputed scene with the
stunt doubles, it has been established
that the two running are in fact
stunt doubles with Jack and Rose's
faces superimposed over the doubles'.
Look closely, you can still see
the faces of the stunt doubles!
- Chrisse

Correction:
I still have a copy of a special
taped about Titanic and it shows
the real Rose and Jack running
in the slow motion scene when
they were taping it. I still
even have the copy of the special.

Explanation:
I am actually friends with
the lady Sarah Franzell
who played Kate Winslet's
stunt double, and I can
assure you that it is her
running down the corridor
away from the water, and
that the actors faces were
indeed superimposed in post
production. She also stood
in for the scene where they
hit the iceberg and the
crew are watching Rose and
Jack kiss. It is infact
Sarah kissing Leo, as Kate
was sick that day. Kate
attended her New Years eve
party that year and I met
her myself!Need more proof?

When Rose is staring
up at the stars after the sinking, and
she's singing the 'Josephine' song,
you'll notice that the stars are somewhat
lined up. As a matter of fact, in some
formats, you'll notice that the stars
are actually set up in the form of the
Heart of the Ocean. - Chrisse

James Cameron
makes more than one cameo
in this movie. Beside the
infamous hand shot, he also
plays the third-class passenger
being inspected for lice as
everyone boards the ship.
- Chrisse
- Comment:
Are you sure he's the
passenger being checked
for lice? James Cameron
has pretty graying hair,
and not such a thick beard.
He's older, too. He does,
however, make a very clear
cameo in the dance scene.
When two people step onto
the platform (it might
be Fabrizio and his girl),
you can catch him behind
them for a second if you
look between them. He's
standing with his back
to the post and is just
looking on in our direction.
- Jane
- Comment:
James Cameron also does
the biggest cameo at the
end when Rose and Jack
kissed by the stairs and
everyone applauds their
(eternal reunion) including
the famous director located
upstairs to the left by
himself with a brown jacket.
This is just another way
to immortalize himself
in the celluloid canvas
of life. (very clever)
I wish George Lucas do
the same. - Stanley

at the party. Because I read earlier

on board the real Titanic with the initials
JT or JK can't remember, and that is the
initials of Jack from the movie. - Prisca_Greenleaf
- Hmm, but Jack's last

- Comment:
Well, actually, I haven't heard about
the man with Jack's initials, but there
was a man aboard the actually named
Jack Dawson--there was a documentary
on him. - kyara

Actually, the person on the Titanic
with the initials J. Dawson, wasn't
'Jack'. His first name was Joseph,
he was a crew member. (Source: History

- Addition:
J. Dawson e was a trimmer, which
means he worked below deck,
and he did die. I know this
because after I had seen the
movie about a million times,
my aunt, who workes with a decendent
of one of the passengers, got
me a copy of "The Daily
Mirror" that was printed
the day after the ship sank,
so then I was into it more and
I got passenger lists, and sure
enough, I found him. J. Dawson,
Trimmer. So both of you are

- In reality, the state rooms occupied by
Rose, Cal and Ruth (cabins B 52, 54, 56)
in the film was occupied by the White Star

blamed for the sinking for the remainder
of his life (apparently he told Captain
Smith to increase the speed of Titanic despite
warnings from Smith that it was not a good

- In the film, Bill Paxton's character claims
"The Heart of the Ocean" diamond
necklace would worth more than the Hope
Diamond if found. What a lot of people don't
know is that "The Heart of the Ocean"
diamond, which Cal tells Rose was once worn
by Louis the sixteenth, is in fact true.
Louis the sixteenth once wore a heart-shaped
diamond which was actually called "The
Crowning of the Ocean". It was later
re-cut into an oval shape and became known
as the Hope Diamond. So while some of the
facts about the diamond in the film are
true, the "Heart of the Ocean"
and the Hope Diamond are one in the same.
However, at the time Titanic made it's maiden
voyage in 1912 the Hope Diamond was resting
safely in the Smithsonian Museum, which
would have made it historically impossible
for the diamond to be on the Titanic. (Source:

- During construction of the Titanic film
set in Mexico, only the starboard side of
the ship was built to cut film expenses.
All portside scenes, such as the scene when
Titanic is docked in Southampton before
setting sail at the beginning of the movie,
were actually flipped scenes shot on the
starboard side. "Flipping" in
film terms means to reverse one scene to
the opposite direction in order to get a
different view. If you watch the scene where
the passengers onboard the ship are waving
goodbye to the onlookers below, you can
see a mirror image of the same passengers
on both sides of the decks. (Source: Through
