- When Luke and his uncle buy C-3PO and a
white-and-red R5-D4 robot from the Jawas,
the R5 unit blows up after traveling a few

the Jawa's transporter, and behind it you
can see the same white-and-red R5-D4 unit
being set up by the Jawas. - Da

- Just after the scene where R2-D2 is riding
shotgun on Luke's X-Wing fighter and is hit
by a shot from Darth Vader, there's a shot
of C-3PO standing beside Leia in the rebel

the rest of the movie). - Da King
- If you watch in slow-mo right before Han

- In the original 1977 cut, one of the scenes
when Darth Vader is walking with the storm
troopers down a corridor.. watch closely as
one of the troopers on the right bangs his
head on an overhang in the tunnel. George
Lucas must have noticed this after a while,
because it is not visible in the Special Edition
of the film. - Chuck
- I'm not sure if this shows up in the Special
Edition widescreen VHS version, but there's
a commonly used photograph of the interior
of OB1's hut with a bad error. While Luke,
C-3PO, and R2 are speaking with OB1, actor
Anthony Daniels is missing the hand of his
C-3PO costume, and his human hand can clearly
be seen. (Theatre) - MarkD
- When Luke, Han, and Chewie, R2D2 and C-3PO
are in the Death Star, Luke discovers that
princess Leia is scheduled to be terminated.
While plotting their strategy, Luke goes to
put the Binders on Chewbacca, in which Chewie
protests. Look carefully (in slow motion)
at Chewie's mouth. You can see the nose and
mouth of the actor inside PERFECTLY when he
rears his head back and growls! - Mike
- When Tarkin (Peter Cushing) blows up Princess
Leia's home planet of Alderaan, he clearly
calls it Alderland. - B
- In the scene when Ben Kenobi is shutting

of the Storm Troopers elsewhere and gets into
the elevator, his hood is off. When he battles
Darth Vader you can clearly see that Ben's
hood is on! I want a hood that can move by
it's self! (Theatre) - Peter
Naughton
- Maybe he put the hood
on in the elevator. Maybe he used the
force to pull the hood up.
- When Luke sees the projection that R-2 is
showing, there is a hose on the left of the
projection. When you get a shot from another
angle you can clearly see that the hose has
moved to the left of the projection. Not only
that, but everything that was on the left
of the projection has moved to the right!
The hose is alive! Note: This was probably
caused because of post production. (Theatre)

Goofs
- The first time Chewie gets into the cockpit
of the Millenium Falcon, he hits his head
on a small set of dice. - Da King
- Comment: Ever
played the Star Wars customizable card
game? Well, there's an interrupt card
in there called "Han's Dice".
It shows a picture of those very dice
that you speak of. - Cren
- [Special Edition] In the scene where Luke
and Leia swings across the missing bridge,
a number of the shots fired by Leia are "bangs"
instead of the laser "zap" sound.
The bang is probably from the prop gun used
(it shot blanks) and was never dubbed over.
- Da King
- Comment: It
is possible that those blaster bolts hit
different surfaces and resulted in a different
sound. Or is could just be bad post-production.

- In the cantina, when Han Solo is talking
to Luke and Obi-wan, he says he "made
the 'Kessel' run in less than xxxx parsecs."
He is referring to parsecs as a measurement
of time. A parsec is a measure of distance,
just like a light-year. - Da
King
- Correction:
Han is referring to making the Kessel
run in less than 12 parsecs. The reason
he uses a unit of distance rather than
time is that is what matters in this case.
The Kessel system has a large cluster
of black holes in it, called The Maw.
The closer you get, the greater the chance
of getting sucked into one black hole
or another. Going within 12 parsecs of
the center of The Maw cluster is practically
suicidal, but allowed Han to escape Imperial
ships and do closer (thus faster) than
anyone had ever done. -
Brendan Cook
- Comment: On
the subject of the Kessel run, when Han
Solo said he made the run in less than
12 parsecs, it does not mean 12 parsecs
from the center of the Maw. He means instead
of making a wider berth around the maw,
in which he would have to travel 14 (or
whatever) more parsecs, he went closer
to the maw, therefore shortening his distance.
Think of it as a race track; traveling
around the inside lane is shorter than
the outside lane. - manix
- Why do the Stormtroopers wear so much cumbersome
armour if a single shot can take them out?
- Da King
- Comment: They
don't all die, the armor acts like bullet
proof vests do it protects you if from
far away, but doesn't do much good if
you are at close range and when you get
shot with a bullet proof vest on it hurts
and you get the air knocked out of you.
Many people think the bullet went through
the vest until they take it off so just
because they fall down doesn't mean they
are dead and remember the opening scene
of Star Wars? The stormtroopers were checking
their comrades to see if they were dead
or not. - Wes

- In a galaxy of such technological advancements,
wouldn't the gunners have guessed that an
escape pod without human life forms aboard
would nevertheless be capable of carrying
information dangerous to the Empire? After
all, they weren't on a tight budget! I'm sure
that Darth Vader wouldn't mind the risk of
wasting a single laser bolt, especially when
so much trouble might have been avoided. -
Da
King
- Correction:
Oh comm-on! Please! George didn't have
Darth Vader blow the pod to bits because
he needed a way for R2-D2 & C-3PO
to get to Tattoin and deliver the message
to Obi-Wan! If he did it would be a very
short movie. - Cerasi
(Da Queen)
- Comment: Actually,
it's even easier than that! The Empire
was looking to recover stolen data tapes
which had been stolen by non-droids and
given to the princess. Also the officer
in charge tells the gunnery officer to
let it go as it was probably a malfunction
(due to the damage caused in getting the
Princess' corvette to stop), but to track
it. Droids are rarely used as spies unless
they are purpose built models. - Brendan

- Oola (his dancer) is trying to get away
from Jabba, and just a split second before
Jabba hits the button and she falls, the top
part of her costume falls off and her breast
can be seen for a moment or two. Look closely
because it's very hard to see. - Cerasi
- Comment: This
is a reach as a goof. Chalk it up to unintended
realism. In a skimpy costume like that,
bouncing around, dancing and struggling
as she was, isn't it plausible for a breast
to pop free of her tiny top? - Brendan
Cook
- Comment: First
of all, they are correct about the scene
with the dancer and Jabba. Her breast
does pop out. If you watch the T.V. version,
they cut part of that scene out. But when
you watch the actual video, you clearly
see a bit more of the dancer than you
expected too. (VHS) - wimpy
- When Leia gets hit, Han goes to get her
out of the line of fire. Right?? Well in doing
so he grabs her breast! - Cerasi
- Comment: Hey,
if the lady I loved was about to get creamed

whatever I could to get her out of the
way!! - Brendan Cook
- Obi-Wan says in Episode 4 that The blast
points were too accurate for sandpeople and
that only Stormtroopers were so precise. But
in Episode 1, The
Sandpeople hit the Podracers whizzing by at
600 mph every shot! And in Episodes 4-6, the
Stormtroopers can't hit anything! - Bob
- Comment: I
think what he means is too accurate in
a tactical sense, i.e. the shots were
too well calculated to disable the transporter
before it could call for help or some
thing.(DVD) - Tallon
Trooper
- Maybe not a real goof, but a little disturbing:
(Warning: Spoiler if You haven't seen the
movies!)
In Episode IV Obi-Wan says something like:
"You can't win, Darth. If you strike
me down, I shall become more powerful than
you can possibly imagine!" Well, how
does he show that immense power? Only by giving
Luke a few good advises from time to time.
Furthermore, in a scene earlier in the movie
Darth Vader states that the Death Star is
nothing compared to the power of the Force.
How does he prove that? By some magic tricks
when he chokes officers or fights Luke man
to man. Hardly more impressive than the powers
of the Death Star. Despite their allegedly
great powers, Vader and the Emperor are easily
defeated together with their entire fleet
at the end of Episode VI. Obviously, the Force
has no real importance in the Star Wars saga.
- Olav Westerman
- Comment: Olav,
Vader was absolutely right when he said
the force was more powerful than the death
star. In the end How was the death star
destroyed? That's right. By Luke using
"The Force". Therefore, by simple
logic, the force is more powerful than
the death star. You said yourself that
he and his fleet were easily defeated,
which also means that the light side of
the force was more powerful than the dark
side. He wasn't talking about himself
when he said that, he was talking about
luke and Obi. Since were on that subject,
Obi Wan *did* become more powerful after
he was killed because he was able to convince
luke to not use his navigation computer
and let the force guide the shot that
destroyed the death star. Obviously the
force is very very very important in the
star wars saga, because it is what guides
all of the characters actions. Please,
think about your thoughts before you post
them. - queeneve
- Anyone who has ever tried to ride a bicycle
(or even a motorcycle) in the sand knows that
R2-D2 wouldn't have made it 5 feet from the
escape pod. - Da
King
- Comment: Not
really a goof. In the first shot we see
R2-D2 quite clearly moving across the
sand dunes with no effects used. In other
shots Lucas used sand-colored skis to
help him move better because the weight
of Baker in the droid was probably making
it hard to move at the necessary speed.
However, in the story R2 is actually extremely
light in weight and his weight is well
spread over his tri-pod legs. His wheels
could also perhaps be designed in a way
that might overcome some of these limitations
allowing him to move slowly over the surface.
The Star Wars novelisation does acknowledge
the difficulty encountered by both droids
in this scene - "neither robot had
been designed for pedal locomotion on
this kind of terrain, so they had to fight
their way across the unstable surface."

- In the Rebel base, as the pilots are briefed
for the battle, the Death star plans are displayed
on a screen. The goof is that the plans displayed
show the superlaser dish in the middle of
the death star, along the equator. However,
the shots of the real Death star clearly show
the superlaser dish in the top half, in the
upper hemisphere. Not very accurate for blueprints,
eh?
- Correction:
This is a common misconception. The great
big round thing at the equator of the
Death Star Blueprints is not it's Superlaser,
but is it's main Sub-Light Drive system,
which has to be as near as possible to
the centerline of the ship to avoid tumbling.
