  • Obviously someone at Touchstone forgot to do some final checks. Throughout the entire movie, not just part, microphones appear at the top. It is so bad that sometimes you could see 3/4 of the microphone in the scene. It is a shame but this actually ruined the movie since the theatre was crowded and many people laughed so you could not hear lines. Since the mic showed very often they laughed through almost the entire movie. - nick
  • ET just stands there and takes a bat whoopin without even trying to run away or fight back. The reason they left is probably because the worlds armies mowed them down with no problem. How many people died I'll never know. - Smeagol
  • (Plot holes) Another thing that bothered me about the aliens (besides all the ones you pointed out), was the fact that water is their "Kryptonite", yet they invade a planet that is composed of 75% water and dine on creatures that are 90% water. All the while running around completely unprotected from this threat (e.g. NAKED). Yep... Must've used up all their superior intellect on interstellar space travel. (Theatre) - brittnell
  • (Continuity) As Officer Paski walks back to her cruiser, her ballpoint pen shifts from being clipped on the outside of her shirt pocket to being fully inside. (Theatre) - Rayman
  • (Continuity) When the female police officer is talking to Mel Gibson in the driveway, her pen is outside her shirt pocket, in the next scene she is standing at the police car door and the pen is inside the shirt pocket. - Ozi-Q
  • (Continuity) In the movie the screen door on the house is white first. When the officer comes to check on the aliens on the roof, the door is red, and then it goes back to white the rest of the movie. (VHS) - stormy
  • (Continuity) Near the end of the movie, when they are entering the basement if you look beyond the characters the door already has the holes in it that the aliens did to all the other boards on the windows. (DVD) - Brian
  • (Revealing mistakes) Kind of strange... but a lot of cop movies do this quite often: Check out Officer Paski's shirt. It has the dry-cleaner's press on the front, back, both sleeves, and the American Flag patch on the right sleeve, but the large patch for Bucks County on the left sleeve has no press/bend in it. The patch was, obviously, just added to her shirt for the movie. (DVD) - Kieth Moreland
  • (Spoiler) (Plot holes) These aliens are basically dissolved by water, and land throughout the entire world. Surely it would have rained somewhere on the planet during their scoutings/invasion. They would have disappeared quicker than the Wicked Witch of the West! - blackpheasant
  • (Crew/equipment visible?) After Mel Gibson's character encounters the alien near the crop circle at night, he runs back to the house to find his children washing dishes(chapter 9 in the dvd if I remember correctly). As he starts to sit down in the chair, watch the window. Either some member of the crew wanted to look in on the scene, or this was an extra subtle alien appearance. It doesn't look like an alien to me, but for some reason it still creeps me out every time I see it. - pezpunk

Corrected Goofs

  • (Spoiler) Interplanetary travel would mean that it is a highly intelligent species, yet they can't figure out how to open a door even though they have arms and maneuverable fingers. - Smeagol
    • Correction: There is never a time where the alien had the chance to open the door, but couldn't. In the pantry, the door is blocked by something. In the basement, the ax keeps the door shut. They do show the handle turning and moving around. - RhodeTryp
  • They invade with no equipment, armor or weapons except a weak poison gas that can only be released in small doses. - Smeagol
    • Correction: The kid explains that they don't bring down any kind of weapons because they knew that we would use necular weapons to destroy them, in turn, destroying earth so they couldn't use it. - RhodeTryp
  • If their skin changes color to cloak them, why is one walking down a Brazilian street, bare-ass, in broad daylight with no skin change?? And as a side note: Where was the Air Forces of the world?? When a unidentified aircraft enters a countries airspace fighters are deployed immediately. Yet they hovered over the cities uncontested even when it is reported that they are hostile. Great movie though, really enjoyed it! :) - Smeagol
      • Correction: ET is walking out of a bush, so he is still blending with the GREEN leaves... even though he changes to blend in with his background, he still has his scales. - Jennifer
      • Correction: The alien was hiding behind a bunch of plants that were green...the alien walked out from behind the plants and was still green...he just hadn't changed colors yet. - RhodeTryp
