Debated Goofs - Commented Goofs - Corrected Goofs - Explained Goofs

  • Iran and Irak is shown on a map in this movie, which takes place in the 1930's, although the area at that time was called Persia.
  • During the fire fight in Marion's Bar, Indy's gun changes from a .38 revolver to a Colt .45, back to a .38, then back once again to a .45. This might be the reason that he is able to fire his gun 7 times without reloading.
  • Set in 1936, the sub-machine guns used are German MG-44s, which weren't designed until 1944.
  • The exploding truck has a pole launched out of the bottom of it to make it flip over.
  • Map showing the path of Indy's flight includes Thailand, which was called Siam at the time.
  • When Indy pushes a stone block out of a wall to escape from the crypt, it bounces as it hits the ground.
  • The cobra's reflection can be seen in the glass, which protects the actors from the snakes in the hole in the ground.
  • A sealed room buried for thousands of years is shown to contain snakes from all over the world.
  • When Indy meets with the Gmen towards the beginning of the movie, he sets down an old leather book. In the first scene, the metal clasps are holding the book closed. In the next shot, he returns to the book, and has to undo the metal clasps. - Marnie
  • When ---- gets his head melted at the end, his glasses suddenly go down to his neck without falling. - David
    • Addition: The glasses fall quickly because the effect was accomplished by using a heat gun pointed towards a wax head, then sped up for the final melting effect. - Sam
  • At the end, when the Nazi's corpses are getting sucked into the sky, one of the guys is obviously a dummy, because his leg bends the wrong way. - David
  • In the scene when Indy is running from the rock look at the wall. You can see a grid in the wall and a peg out of the rolling rock. - James
  • In the big truck chase, the shadow of the camera is visible numerous times. - David
  • When Indy is dragging underneath the truck, you can see the long ditch they dug so the stuntman's back wouldn't get scraped on the floor. - Cerasi
  • When Indy is running back out of the cave in the beginning, the stone door keeps changing how high it is. It goes up, then down far, then back up some, oops, let's go down a little bit, okay go up, now back down. - food controller
  • When Marion is tied up in the German tent, her hair is under the gag tied around her mouth, then over it, then under it again. - David
  • Just before the appearance of the Nazis in Marion's Bar in Tibet, Marion is studying the head piece which is attached by a chain necklace around her neck. In an instant just prior to her placing the head piece on the stand, the neck chain is dangling from the piece and not her neck. A clear continuity timing edit mistake. (her hand position is exactly the same in both frames). - BARRY
  • This is just really minor, and probably not noticeable, but if you notice in the street chase scene when Marion hides in the whatsit with the lid, the lid doesn't go all the way on; it dangles a bit. When the monkey gets on top of it, it's perfectly centered. - Cren
  • (Continuity) In the map room when Indy is about to drop the staff of Ra into the correct hole the sun beam is way over his head, once it falls into place however (and it does go down) it is suddenly *in* the sun beam! - Bridget

Commented Goofs

  • While Indy is packing for his quest to go find the ark, Marcus warns him of the ark's great power. Indy dismisses Marcus's concerns saying that he doesn't believe in all that superstitious, hocus-pocus stuff. This seems quite odd from Indy since "Raiders" takes place chronologically after "Temple of Doom" in which Indy saw several examples of 'magic' at work and even practiced some himself (remember... he was hanging from the rope bridge fighting w/ Mola Ram. Indy activated the 'magic' of the Sankara stones by chanting 'you betrayed Shiva'). - rick
    • Comment: Yes, but as you well know, this was the first movie to be MADE. The writer's obviously had no idea that they would make Temple of Doom at the time. - Cren
  • A fly can be seen crawling into Belloq's mouth (and not reappearing) when Indy threatens to blow up the Ark.
    • Comment: I saw that fly crawl in that guys mouth. I wonder if they forgot to cut that, if it crawled in accidentally. I had to rewind the tape 5 times to get my cousins to believe me!!! - the mad hatter

Belloq doesn't mind
swallowing flies.

  • The Nazi's Staff of Ra is said to be too long, true enough; but Indy's Staff of Ra is WAY too long! :) When they go to see the "Old Man" about the inscription on the headpiece, he translates "This for the old way, this means six kadam (sp?) high." And then Sallah says "About seventy-two inches." 72 inches is 6 feet, so 1 Kadam = 1 foot. THEN the old man says "But take back one Kadam to honor the Hebrew God whose Ark this is." That's 5 Kadams, which would be 5 feet. Indy (Harrison Ford) is well over 6 feet tall, yet his Staff of Ra -- which SHOULD only be 5 feet high -- is a foot or so TALLER than Indy himself. Shoulda thrown in a few more kadams. ;) - susurran
    • Comment: Holy crap, you're right! That scene had just come up the instant I saw your post. - Cren

Corrected Goofs

  • At the end, when all the lights are shooting through the Germans, you can see dark spots in the guys where the lights will go before they hit them. - David
    • Correction: This doesn't have to be a goof. It's supernatural, you don't know if you could or could not see the dark spots when it would really happen. - Bart
  • When Indy is getting chased by the big boulder, two things are wrong: first, you can see that it is on a pole, second, you can see the shadow of the camera and crew. - David
    • Correction: According to a "Making of..." documentary that HBO used to show about Raiders, the boulder is absolutely NOT on a pole. It rolled freely and caused the production to need additional insurance on Mr. Ford in case he tripped and production had to stop (luckily, no such thing occurred). - rick
    • Addition: Notice Indy does indeed trip and fall to his knee. It was real. Harrison Ford was almost crushed under that plaster ball for performing his own stunt. - Sam
