  • The mum and the mums boyfriend are talking in the kitchen at Max's birthday party. She is preparing the cake. She brings out a box of candles but puts them down on the counter to talk and then miraculously in the next scene, they are all on the cake!!! - Cookie
  • When the mom is talking to the dad the boy is seen on her left with his seatbelt on, the they cut to the dad and the cut back to the mom the boy doesn't have his seatbelt on anymore, and that keeps happening... - Da King
  • In one scene when the mom is driving Max to school, he is wearing a seatbelt. When the camera focuses on the mom then switches back to Max, his seatbelt is off. This happens several times in the same scene. - Sunny
  • There's a part in the movie where Jim is running and kicks this door open and falls up against a wall. Well if you look closely you can see the wall move. - Kara
  • I'm pretty sure this is a goof. There's a part in the movie that Jim just gets out of a cab and starts running to catch Audrey. Jim trips over the curb, I think it was an accident. You can tell by his facial expressions. - Kara
  • Towards the middleish end while Mr. Reed (Jim Carrey) is in the court room when he is mocking the female lawyer, when he makes the series of noises, in one scene he has is hands in his mouth makings a weird sound, and you can clearly hear him start to laugh, but its muffled because of his hands in his mouth. - Petey
  • (Factual errors) In the jet scene, the jet would have had to be going at least 175 MPH, given it was about to take off and mobile staircases can barely move 30 MPH. - Coast Guard Officer
  • (Revealing mistakes) There is no way a person could safely get as close to an operating jet engine as Fletcher Reed did in the "one last chance" scene. - Coast Guard Officer
  • (Revealing mistakes) In the "One year Later Scene" When Max blows out the candles, it takes around 3 seconds for the room to go dark, when in reality the room would be dark the instant Max exhaled. - Coast Guard Officer

Debated Goofs

  • When the main character's secretary asks him if she thinks it's fair that a robber sued her friend for $5,000 Jim Carrey responds with "No, I could've got him 10." When the secretary walks away he yells "I didn't understand the question." That's a big lie since he would've had to understand the question in order to give that answer. - lil_jerome
    • Comment: It's supposed to be funny when he says, "Wait, I didn't understand the question.", it's supposed to be a joke. He's trying to cover it up. Come on now!! - Sparkle
      • Comment: Sparkle, understandably that is just a joke, but jerome was pointing out the fact that he was lying when he was not able to do so. - Sandy
    • Comment: He could have thought thought she was asking if it was fair that he got 5,000 instead of her asking if it was fair that her friend was sued maybe that is how he misunderstood the question if that was the case he would have been telling the truth. - sara
  • As Jim is being taken away by the bailiff, he starts shouting I'M JOSE CONSAICO (the baseball player), which is a lie. His characters name is Fletcher. - Timmeh
    • Correction: He is talking about the baseball game he promised to play with Max. He told Max that was who he would be when they played. - kat
      • Technically it is still a lie.
        • Comment: This is not a lie, because in order to lie, you goal must be to make another person (falsely) believe in what you are saying. So, this is simply kind of a game and no lie. - LibbyDoe
          • Correction: All good points. As to the whole"lying is making someone believe false facts" thing, how does anybody in the courthouse know what he is talking about. Even though he does say "i have a date to play ball with my son" this does not give much information. He has called himself a false name which is still lying, no mater what the purpose. He still gave a bunch of people a false name. - Timmeh

Corrected Goofs

  • In the movie when they're in the court room and Jim Carrey just beat him self up the judge asked, "Who did this?" Jim Carrey says, "A mad man your honor." The judge said, "what did he look like?" Jim Carrey said, "6 foot 2,250 pounds big teeth kinda gaggley." That was a lie because he really did it. He was not able to lie. - Joey
    • Correction: He wasn't lying when he was giving the description of who beat him up because he was describing himself. If you notice that when he describes the teeth as being gangly he quickly covers his teeth. - sara
