• The movie takes place in Illinois, but all cars have California registration plates.

• The movie is set in the flat land of Illinois, but snow-capped mountains can be seen when Doctor Loomis is using the pay phone.

• When Laurie sees the shape near the bush, cigarette smoke from director John Carpenter's cigarette can be seen floating into view.

• When Annie tells Laurie and linda that she is baby-sitting the wallaces' daughter, Laurie says she's baby-sitting Tommy Doyle, and that he is just three houses down from the Wallaces'. When you see the houses in the movie, they're actually across the street from each other - the mad hatter

• Michael couldn't get the mask and knife until he robbed the hardware store right?!? But you see him with his mask on when Laurie looks out the school window and when she sees him by the bushes. If he robbed the store later in the afternoon, as the sheriff says, he shouldn't have had the mask that early in the day. - the mad hatter

• Set in October in Illinois, trees shouldn't have healthy green leaves. - Shell

• Pavement changes quickly from dry to wet when Laurie is walking home from school. - Shell

• Towards the end when they shoot Michael out the window, a girl screams at the same time the shot is fired but if you watch it sounds like the silly shriek comes from Michael, this isn't a goof its just silly. - Spectre

• Jamie Lee Curtis walk in the house by turning the doorknob on the right, when she closes the door the knob is on the opposite side. - BillyO

• (Continuity) When Annie drops Laurie off at the Doyle house and Michael is following them, Laurie gets out of the car and goes up to the Doyle house. At that time of the film, look at the front door. It has little square windows. For the rest of the time in that film, it's shown as a white, solid door. (VHS/DVD) - Missy

• Michael has his age listed as "age 23" in the credits, where he was actually 21 in the film. - starlite

• (Continuity) When Michael is chasing Laurie at the end, she runs out the back door and to the RIGHT. But, when there is a cut to the front of the house, Laurie comes running from the left side instead. - starlite

• (Continuity) A continuity error occurs when Michael is stalking Tommy at the school. When Tommy first starts to walk away, there are a few cars parked across the street from where he's headed. There is a cut once Michael gets into his car, and that's when all of those cars are gone.

• (Continuity) When Bob picks Lynda up in his arms, he leaves the van door open. Then, they go into the Wallace house. After Lynda is murdered, Laurie Strode goes across the street to inspect everything, and when she passes the van, you can clearly see that the door has been closed.

• (Revealing mistakes) Watch the where Laurie barely escapes the Shape and Tommy barely unlocks the door in time. After she tells him to go upstairs, she notices the open window/door next to her and sees the curtain blowing in the wind. In the new DVD version, you can see a large wind fan behind the window, creating the wind to move the curtain.

• (Continuity) When little Michael is about to kill his sister, you can see the clock on the kitchen wall and another clock in the living room show it's about 9:25pm. As Michael walks up the steps, there are 10 loud chimes that come from the clock, signifying it's 10pm. Without a cut, there's no way it took 35 minutes to walk up those steps!

• (Crew/equipment visible) (Best seen with the new Limited Edition DVD) During the scene where Annie and Laurie are walking away from the bush where Laurie had seen the Shape disappear behind moments earlier, hit the pause button. If you hit slo-mo, look at the front porch of the house directly behind the bush. You'll see that there's a man (possibly crew members) watching the whole scene being filmed. He's standing and you can see him above the bush. (DVD)

• (Crew/equipment visible) (Best seen with the new Limited Edition DVD) After Michael looks in the window at Judith and her boyfriend, the camera pulls back and goes back around to the front of the house. When it first starts to pull back, if you look on the porch, hanging outside of the window are a whole bunch of electrical wires leading into the house for the lighting equipment. When he gets inside to where that window is, the wires are gone. A crew member obviously moved the wires out of sight while the filming was taking place on the other side of the house.

• (Continuity) Annie calls Laurie and tells her that she'll pick her up at 6:00. However, when she picks Laurie up it's still daylight when it should be dark at that time of year. I know this because I live in southern Illinois.

• (Plot holes) Isn't it strange that Michael Myers can drive a Car. Even though he has been in a Mental Hospital since he was 6 years old. - Movie Man

• (Continuity) At the start of the film when Michael Myers (as a child) is walking through the house a clock on the wall says 9.25 but when he starts to walk up the stairs we can hear 10 chimes clearly showing that it is 10 o'clock!
  This scene was all in one shot so there is no way it could have taken Michael 35 minutes to walk through the house and start walking up the stairs. - Lee

Corrected Goofs

• In the first Halloween movie, Jamie Lee Curtis is told to drop off the key at the Meyers' place. The Meyers' are clearly in no way related to her. Then in later movies she tells everyone Michael Meyers is her brother. Whatever! - Kerry
  • Correction: Towards the end of Halloween 2, Dr. Loomis reveals, in the schoolhouse, that Michael Myers IS Laurie Strode's brother; he was incarcerated when she was very young, and I think he said Michael was adopted by the Myers family. - Dave
  • Correction: It is revealed in Halloween 2 that Michael and Laurie are brother and sister. However, it is Laurie, not Michael, who was eventually adopted. Laurie was adopted by the Strodes. - Jennifer

• In the scene where Lindsey is watching a scary movie in the dark and the phone rings, you can see the shadow of the camera man on the wall. - Chris Astoyan
  • Correction: The shadow seen on the wall is Lindsey's. Look carefully, you can see it move when she does and is in same shape as her head. It is her own shadow, not the camerman's. - Justinsangel2

Explained Goofs

• It is assumed that Tommy Doyle lives quite far from Laurie in order to drive there and seems like it took an hour or so as it turned from light to dark and had a lenghty chat. YET at the beginning Tommy meets up with her as if he lived close to her. - Justinsangel2
  • Explanation: The reason it is dark when Laurie & Annie arrive at the Doyle house is because in the Mid-West (Illionois, Indiana, Ohio, etc) nightfall comes very quickly in the fall. I know because I live in Indiana. - Zach
