  • Obi-Wan Kenobi's braid magically switches sides between shots. - S&M
  • They re-use the same "audience clapping" scene. You can tell by the fact that everyone looks exactly the same, same position, same action, etc. that's by the "duh theory". qed - Lando
  • At the end of the movie when the all of the jedi's are getting off the ship at the parade seen you can see a guy who looks alot like mace windu in the background but it's not Sam Jackson.- adam
  • When Jar Jar passes by the droids (including R2) on the ship there are 3 droids. Then when the droids are on the top of the ship there are 4. - Road Dogg
  • The white piece of cloth that Anakin is holding when everybody leaves appears beside him when watto says "clean the racks." there is no indication of him moving it during his close-up shot. - Steven
  • During the end celebration, there will be a shot looking towards the precession down the Theed palace steps, with the Queen and others in the foreground. At the bottom of the steps, two large statue shadows are seen. These are never seen again. - Bob
  • When Qui-Gon, Jar Jar, Padme, and Anakin first enter Anakin's house, Qui-Gon introduces himself to Anakin's mother- as he says this, Padme is mouthing Qui-Gon's lines. - Winky
  • This is during the pod race. Before Anakin's little gizmo pops out, when Sebulba's engines are right behind Anakin; he looks back. During this time, there is a little red dot projected in his eyes, kind of like a laser pointer. - Bob
  • When Padme is telling everyone about the "storming the castel" plans, her lips don't match-up with her lines! uh-oh! Das not good! - Cerasi
  • When the sith droid zooms thought the city, look closely. It goes through a guy. - Ax
  • During the Podrace, one of the racers (I'm positive he has a name, I just don't remember) is stopped because his pod won't work. The droids are all over, and he screams (sort of quick, but you can still hear it) "Que pasa, que pasa?" which is Spanish. I think it means "What's up, what's happening" but I'm not positive. Something around that. So Spanish makes it into the movie! Cool! - Jennifer
  • In the widescreen edition, when Darth Maul uses the force to open the door with some debris during the jedi vs sith battle, look to the left of him. You can see Obi-Wan walking slowly and twirling his lightsaber like he wasn't even fighting the sith. - alli jinn
  • We all know that fire burns hair really fast, right? So why is it you can see Oui-Gon's beard, hair and eyebrows while he's being burned in the end of the movie? That close up shot was not a good idea at all. - bobafett1hit
  • Towads the end of the movie when Darth Maul pushes Obi-Wan you see Darth Maul's lightsaber in his right hand but when he force pushes he uses his right hand and there is no lightsaber. In the next scene the lightsaber is back in his right hand. (VHS) - DBZFan
  • Towads the beginning of the movie the viceroy pops up on a hologram and says, "Destroy what's left of them." If you look at the droid and the left of the screen in front after the viceroy says that you will notice that the droids hand on the gun barrel magicly goes through the barrel. (VHS) - DBZFan
  • During the whole podrace, Anakin is rather calm as he pilots his racer at incredible speeds through tight canyons. But when Qui Gon lifts him into his racer before the race, Anakin says, "Whoa!" I guess being lifted three feet is scarier than flying at Mach 12! (DVD) - Sam
  • When Jar Jar is Talking to the Droids just before they go outside to repair you will notice there are 2 blue and 1 red, as you see the 2 R2 units leave their holdings they are RED ? Then as they go up the shute they are blue ??? - The Street
  • Now this is a goof. When Qui-Gon Jinn melt the blast door with his lightsaber onboard the Trade Federation Ship while his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi covers him... Don't everyone think that the temperature increase from the molten metal would be VERY hot? Just look at Qui-Gon Jinn's hand when he is melting the blast door... don't you guys think that his hand is a lil bit too close to the melting? - Mind of Jedi
  • In the scene where they are meeting with the queen on the ship (the part where she tells the maiden to clean up R2-D2) when the queen calls up Qui-Gon, he waits for a second. This is because he forgot his cue and had to think for a second. - Strangebrain
  • In Theed when Qui-Gon follows the queen his lightsaber is green and in the next scene it's yellow and back to green. - jedi
  • In the beginning, you can see Obi-Wan has no braid in his hair and is tied into a small ponytail. When the droid serves the water, Obi's ponytail is gone. When they fight the droids, it reappears. (VHS) - Skorpyo01
  • Also, when Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan jump down from the shaft, Obi's famous braid is back. (VHS) - Skorpyo01
  • This ones hard to catch. After Qui-gon is stabbed by Darth Maul, Obi Wan fights him alone. Wait until you see Darth Maul swing his saber over Obi-Wan's head, who then ducks. Listen, and you'll hear their sabers make contact 4 times. It looks like they hit 4 times too. But if you look very carefully, their sabers only made contact 3 times! it happens so fast, its hard to catch. I saw this goof when I was watching their fight in freeze frame slow motion. It's easier to see it that way, too. - jedi mistress
  • (Plot holes) Why, when stranded on Tattooine, couldn't they just sell their damaged, but still nice, space craft and book passage on a freighter just like the heroes in the original Star Wars? Having a princess along would've given them more sway than Luke and Obi Wan had when they made their deal with Han Solo. - White Wolf
  • (Audio/visual unsynchronised) In the scene where R-2 is projecting the picture of how to get into the Palace of Theed, you may be focusing on the projection but if you look at Padmé, you will notice she is way off sync. (Theatre) - Peter Naughton
  • (Audio/visual unsynchronised) When Obi-Wan comes charging into the reactor room after the Force Doors open, watch and listen carefully. he swings at Maul three times, all three shots get blocked, there is definately that flash of light that indicates that saber blades have met, however the sound crew only inserted two sound effects. Oops. (DVD Widescreen) - Jay

Debated Goofs

  • While Anakin is first working on his pod a bunch of his friends come up. The tall girl has braces! - Road Dogg
    • Comment: It was mentioned that when Anakin Skywalker is working on his pod, a tall girl walks up and has braces. What kind of goof is that? Is technology so great in the future that people are born with perfect teeth?? - jblundell
      • Comment: The commenter said that Star Wars takes place in the future, it actually says in the movie, "Along time ago..." get my hint. - Vic Cherubini
        • Comment: "A long time ago...". Don't you think maybe it was so far into the future (hence the pod racers) that a long time ago in the future is still the future for our generation? Think about it. - mstartommorow
    • Comment: If they had the braces technology in the movie then why does Darth Maul look like Austin Powers? - Road Dogg
      • Comment: It's not Darth Maul's fault they made him look so scary like Austin Powers! Like, oh my gosh they said "com-on guy's, let's go play ball" that's not right, balls weren't invented then! -sigh- So what if it's the past!! Braces are perfectly fine no matter what time it is! Oh yeah, good one on the "A long time ago" thing! - Cerasi
        • Comment: Hey Cerasi, if they could make podracers, I think they could make balls to play with. Common sense. - Kendall
  • This isn't a spoiler. Everybody and their mother has seen the movie but in the first series Obi-Wan and Yoda disappeared after they died but Qui-Gon didn't why? - adam
    • Comment: Well from what I understand a jedi will only disappear after death only if he has accomplished his lives mission example Obi-Wan found and if you don't mind the pun a new hope {Luke} his life mission could of been find the one person who can stop the empire. Yoda's mission could of been train this person if that's the case. Qui-Gon didn't complete his mission there for didn't vanish. - ash
      • Correction: If Any one has ever actually studied starwars as I have then you know that the jedi only disappear if they choose to do so by releasing their soul to the force, or medicloreans (the simiotic life the exert the force) But you guys wouldn't know that because you don't take the time to realize that Yoda died slowly, and Obi-Wan chose to die for Luke. Qui-Gon died unexpectedly. - Jedi_Master
        • Correction: Or did he? Why do you think he was meditating in that scene where he and Darth Maul were stalled by the energy barriers? He knew he was going to die soon, that's why. Simple logic. - Cren
    • Comment: In any case, George Lucas said in USA Today (in 1999): "You will discover why he doesn't disappear. The key line that serves as a clue is from Ben Kenobi to Darth Vader (in the original film): 'If you strike me down I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.' - Michael R.
  • In Episode 1 Obi-Wan has a British accent but in Episode 4 he has an American accent. Weird. - Andrew Nixon
    • Correction: Huh? Sir Alec Guiness (as well as Ewan McGregor who plays Obi-Wan in Episode One) is British, and from what I can tell is not doing anything special to alter his voice. In fact, I was quite impressed with the vocal similarities between the Obi-Wan actors... - Zerblig
      • Correction: Actually, Zerblig, Ewan McGregor is Scotish, not British. You are right about Sir Alec Guiness, though. - Sub-Zero
        • Comment: Scotland is a part of the BRITISH Isle. Therefore if you're from Scotland...you're both British AND Scotish. If you're from England... you're English and British. Hope this clears it up. - Pete
          • Comment: I don't mean to go overboard and off-topic, but the term "British" comes from the combination of the words "Briton" (yes, that is spelled correctly) and "Scottish". Whoever said, "...both British AND Scottish" was being redundant. - Cren

Commented Goofs

  • Furthermore, who designs the bad guys major warships or thinks up their strategy? In every Star Wars movie, it seems one lucky shot is capable of destroying an entire ship, ships, I might add, that are the size of Manhattan. Even a modern battleship needs a good pounding before it sinks. And you'd think that control of the enemy forces on Naboo could be transferred to another ship if need be. I expected better. - thatjerryguy
    • Comment: How soon we forget. The HMS Hood (a good guy's ship) was sank with one shell from the Bismark (a bad guy's ship) when the shell exploded in the Hood's powder magazine and sank as fast as Droid Army Control Ship took to fall aprart. The USS Arizona sank where it was berthed when one lucky armor piercing bomb hit its mark and exploded in the ship's powder magazine. The USS Indianapolis sank after it was hit by just one Japanese torpedo. There may have been countless other "lucky shots" that have occurred dunring the past several hundred years of warfare, so it is conceivable despite how well a craft may have been designed that one "lucky shot" could destroy it. The attacks on the Death Stars were planned based on intelligence recieved from the rebel spy network. Skill and planning was involved not luck. Annakin's shot was a lucky shot. - Ben-O-53
  • When Jar Jar first speaks to Padme The Handmaiden (Natalie Portman), as she cleans R2-D2 aboard the Queen's Starship, R2-D2's dome is reversed in the final print. On his dome, there is a projector nozzle on his left. But when Jar Jar finishes his last sentence - "Mesa getting vedy vedy scared!", R2-D2's nozzle is on his right! - filmcritik
    • Comment: Umm.. DUHH! Have you ever seen R2-D2 move his head around?!? Couldn't he just have spun it? Think about it people!!! - KidKritic
  • The scene where anakin is showing padme his C-3PO robot he has C-3PO's eye in his right hand then as he places it in C-3PO's eye it's in his left hand. - koma
    • Comment: I think it's about the age of 6 months that a baby learns to move objects from one hand to another. So I don't find it too amazing that Anakin can do it. - Smarty
  • I somewhat object to the re-use of Tatooine as a location for the events in the films. We learned in the first series (4-6) that Obi-Wan 'hid' Luke from his father, Vader, on Tatooine. Now in Episode One, we learn that Tatooine is Vader's native planet! Isn't it a bit stupid of Obi-Wan to hide Luke from Vader on Vader's native planet??!! - MarkD
    • Comment: Not necessarily. Tattooine was the home planet of ANAKIN, not Vader. Before becoming Darth Vader, Anakin had undergone a total mental and spiritual conversion (and to a great extent, a physical one as well, since Vader's body depends on machinery to survive). This was such a conversion, in fact that when Luke lets himself get captured on Endor to get close to Vader (qv: EP6), Vader bluntly informs Luke that "that name (Anakin Skywalker) no longer has any meaning for me". Now...perhaps Vader didn't remember much of his past life (as Luke stated him when he replied, "it is the name of your true self; you've only forgotten"). On the other hand, it's entirely possible that Vader didn't WANT to remember his past (with the trauma he'd have gone through, during his fall to the Dark Side, it's certainly understandable). In either case, hiding Luke to grow up on Tattooine may not have been as stupid as it'd seem on the surface; perhaps "Old Ben" deserves more credit than that. - Ycekhold
  • (Continuity) When Jar Jar gets his hand stuck in the podracer, Padmé helps him get it out; but in the "star wars episode 1 visual dictionary" book, there is a picture of that scene (where Padmé helps Jar Jar), but jar jar isn't there! Its just Padmé leaning toward the podracer! - brandz
    • Comment: Although there was an actor used as a stand in and to provide the voice of Jar Jar (I believe his name was Ahmed Best) he was a computer generated character. It makes sense that Portman would just mime the scene without any actor and Jar Jar would be added later. - queeneve

Corrected Goofs

  • In Ep.I young Anakin not only builds his own pod racer, but is the only human who can race it. He also claims and apparently fixes Qui Gon's Naboo fighter when it's standed on Tatooine. Then, when hiding in the cockpit of a Naboo fighter in the final scenes, he acts confused..."what does this button do?"...and seems to win the day by mere luck (which Obi-Wan dismisses in Star Wars: A New Hope) by toggling different switches. If he were such the child genius he should have adapted to the Naboo fighter, the same type that he fixed a few scenes earlier, and flown it with the agility of a pilot that he is recognized as being. - mistermyxleplyx
    • Correction: First, Qui-Gon did not have a fighter, it was Princess Amidala's ship. Second, Anakin had absolutely NOTHING to do with fixing the ship. He didn't even see the ship until they were leaving. Just because he fixes things does not necessarily mean he can assertain exactly how something works by simply osmosis, or how ever mistermyxleplyx thinks "genius'" should. When did he see this figher before??? Is this a different movie than what I saw? - HJonesJR
  • Obi-Wan says in Episode 4 that The blast points were too accurate for sandpeople and that only Stormtroopers were so precise. But in Episode 1, The Sandpeople hit the Podracers whizzing by at 600 mph every shot! And in Episodes 4-6, the Stormtroopers can't hit anything! - Bob
    • Correction: Excuse me, stormtroopers are lousy marksman, but don't tell me they can't even shoot a sandcrawler which is at least the size of a large building on the move? Come on... and, obviously sandpeople don't really have the firepower to mow down a LARGE sandcrawler... they basically just use a damn sniper rifle, sort of... - Mind of Jedi
  • I'm not sure about this, so please correct me if I'm wrong. I thought I remember the two dudes that controlled the trade federation ship were in the control room as it blew up. Yet, you find them as prisoners at the end of the movie. (DVD) - Thebuster2000
    • Correction: Excuse me, but the two idiotic viceroy is in the throne room on naboo (remember Captain Panaka's lines during the siege of the castle? Captain Panaka: My guess is the viceroy is in the throne room), the one on the droid control ship is just another pathetic creature. - Mind of Jedi
    • Correction: At the beginning of the movie, the viceroy's associate fears the Jedi. When Darth Sidious comments on how he does "not want to see this (something) slime" in his sight again, he goes off. When the second associate comes in, you have to note his different headdress, voice, and facial appearance. Only one of those 2 bodies is on the droid control ship at the time of its destruction. Also, you clearly see the viceroy and his other associate in the throne room right before Queen Amidala says "Now viceroy we shall discuss a new treaty...". Those are the ones you see "prisoner" at the end. Also, they were not prisoner; they were in guilt knowing that they had to explain everything to the senate. - Cren

Explained Goofs

  • There is an argument that Obi-Wan refers to Yoda as his trainer in Empire Strikes Back, yet is seen being trained by Qui-Gon in Phantom Menace. There are two movies left and Qui-Gon is gone; Yoda is seen counciling the *novice* jedi, Obi-Wan in the last scenes of Ep.I. Also, in the first scene, Obi-Wan makes a reference to Yoda's teachings with,"...but master Yoda said to always be aware of the future" or something to that extent. Anyway, Yoda's prowess and throne in the hierarchy of the Jedi Council is well established. I believe that the question of Obi-Wan's training remains to be seen and people should not be so quick to judge/condem such a fun movie. - mistermyxleplyx
    • Explanation: Children in the Republic during Episode I's time are tested for medichlorians (sp) at age 1. If they are found to be Force-sensitive, they are taken to the Jedi Temple and instructed until they either become a Padawan to a Master, or turn 13, at which point they are given a different job. Obi-Wan was trained under Yoda until he was 12 and 3/4's years old. - StarLion
    • More comments on this subjects is found on the Empire Strikes Back page.
  • Queen Amidala claimed her people had no standing army, just a police force for internal problems. So why did they have enough of an Air Force to mount a major attack against a fleet of battlecruisers and their defending fighters? Hello. Also, Jar Jar Binks claimed his tribe was a "warrior race". So why didn't they overrun and conquer the humans on Naboo, who, according to the Queen, had no standing army? Isn't that what "warrior races" do? No, instead they hid under a lake. What a bunch of old ladies. - thatjerryguy
    • Comment: Ok, #1 The Jerry Guy, you said that the queen said that they have no standing army. That is true, but that has nothing to do with the air force. Just like here, the air force is not the army. #2, you said that the gungans are a warrior people and would overun the naboos. The gungans received supplies through trade with the Naboo that made sure they survived. The same with the Naboos, they lived off eachother. Hello. - Kendall
      • Explanation: Hey -ThatJerryguy- and -kindall- The answer to why the gungans don't overrun the Naboo is because, the Gungans don't like to come to the surface very often and would rather keep the tension off their back, and they have had their conflicts in the past. Especially when the Naboo first arrived on the planet as colonists from their real home world. - Jedi_Master
  • This may not be a goof, but if Anakin Skywalker built C-3PO in Episode One, would he not have recognized his creation in Episodes 4-6? - Zerblig
    • Explanation: C-3P0 and Darth Vader never met in the movies. (Go ahead, try and prove me wrong) That's why he doesn't recognize him.
      • Explanation: I don't have to try very hard to prove that Vader meets C-3PO; the droid is present (albeit on Chewie's back) when Vader freezes Han in the carbonite freezing room in Cloud City. Lucas has said that the issue of Vader not recognizing C-3PO will be addressed in the prequel trilogy. I think the simplest answer is that C-3PO goes through a number of changes (we don't know yet what he'll look like the last time Anakin/Vader sees him in Episodes II and III) and/or protocol droids don't look all that different from each other. C-3PO encouters a look-alike in Cloud City (the one that says an alien word to C-3PO who responds "how rude!"), not to mention the droid that escorts Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan aboard the Trade Federation Cruiser in the opening scenes. - Natrone Fett
  • In the beginning of the movie both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan use jedi super speed to escape from the droids why then did Obi-Wan not use at the end to run pass the laser gates to help his master. - timeshadow
    • Explanation: Quite simply, if he would have used jedi speed to race to Qui-Gon's rescue, he (Obi-wan) would not have been able to be at full strength when facing Maul. Remember, Jedi have limited strength like everyone else! - polish_jedi
  • Did anyone find it odd that Qui Gon Jinn, who was standing right next to Senator Palpatine, didn't feel a powerful "disturbance in the Force"? And I would think that the Jedi Council would be able to feel a Sith Lord's presence coming from the Senate--but apparently they didn't even notice. - AI
    • Explanation: Actually, in the scene where Qui Gon is talking to the Jedi counsel, Yoda informs us, "Hard to see, the dark side is." (or something exactly like that--- I don't have the exact quote). - Rick
    • Explanation: On Qui-Gon not being able to sense the dark side in Palpatine, this is more or less explained in AOTC with Yoda claiming that the 'dark side clouds everything' and Dooku's speech to Obi-Wan. - Darth Cool
  • I'm not sure if this is technichally a goof but, if Anakin Skywalker built C-3PO, doesn't it seem strange that in Episode 4 C-3PO doesn't even mention to Luke that he was built on the same planet by a guy with the same name. - Rick
    • Correction: With regards to C-3PO not remembering the skywalkers, first of all he is a robot, his memory can be erased. In fact Luke's uncle Owen planned to do this to him. He did also mention that his last master was captain someone or other, so he probably had his memory flushed already. And please don't ask how he mantained being a protocol droid. They just left that info when they flushed him. - Jon C.
    • Explanation: George Lucas has now declared that both robots will somehow have their memories erased in the final part of the prequel trilogy. - Darth Cool
    • Comment: First of all, the idea of recognizing own droid is simply a goof itself... there are thousands, perhaps MILLIONS of droids with the same look like C-3PO. Anakin build it, but did not design it. Even if he design it... it is still not possible to recognise droids. C-3PO is a just a protocol droid. Just like another droid! - Mind of Jedi
  • When Yoda dies, he turns to the ghost and his body disappears. When OB1 dies, he turns into a ghost and his body disappears. When Vader dies, he turns into a ghost and his body DOESN'T disappear. When Quin Gon Gin dies, his body doesn't disappear. Unless he shows up as a ghost in the episode 2, I would think this is a flaw. Do you have to dispose the body for the ghost to show up? - thebuster2000
    • Explanation: For a jedi to disappear when they die they must either except their death or be giving their life for a cause. They also would disappear if they have completed their meaning or mission in life. - gl_bustr
    • Correction: I can't explain why Qui Gon didn't vanish after his death (I wondered the same thing) but I must inform you that Vader's body did disappear. Luke burned his empty armor in a funeral pyre on Endor. - lachton
  • Sebulba disables Anakin's racer by snapping a plug on his thruster leaving it dangling. The next scene shows the plug clearly intact. - pat
    • Explanation: Pat, watch the deleted scenes. I think you'll find your answer there. (DVD) - Shanna / Nanapooky
  • Watch Obi-wan catch Qui-Gon's saber in slow motion. He barely has a grip on it, his thumb is way off to one side, and nothing touches the activator button, but the saber still turns itself on! - Gidman
    • Explanation: Couldn't a jedi turn a lightsaber on with the force? - Bob
  • In episode 4 Han says that he never heard of the force and he has been in almost every galaxy, but in episode 1 it seems that every planet or person has heard of the force. What happened did they all forget about the jedi. - TAZ
    • Explanation: Well you also have to realize that Palpatine tries to erase all knowledge of the jedi, all artifacts, all actual jedi, any mention of them. - Barvaze
  • (Plot holes) When they first fought Darth Maul on Tattooine and escaped in their spaceship why didn't they just turn around and blast him on his little speeder traveling across the open desert?
    • Explanation: The Royal starship has no weapons! And if they used blasters, Maul would deflect them. - Barvaze
  • At the beginning of the big fight scene between Qui Gon, Obi Wan, and Darth Maul, Obi wan is behind Darth Maul. Darth Maul's back is totally exposed to Obi Wan, but Obi Wan doesn't even try to take a swipe at his back! - jedi mistress
    • Explanation: The reason for this is simply - A Jedi will not strike down a defenseless or unaware person, even a Sith. They have honor and codes of conduct that they live by and to strike down Maul while his back was turned would be cold-blooded. Even given the circumstances, it would be morally wrong to do so. - Adm. Piette
