Debated Goofs - Commented Goofs - Corrected Goofs - Explained Goofs

  • Even after Hanks has lost the power from his only flashlight, there is a nighttime scene in which a phosphorescent light emanates from his cave. What could the source of it possibly be? - Allan
  • The movie is supposed to begin in 1995 as evidenced by the carving of the dead airplane crewman's birth and death dates on a rock by Tom Hanks. Later in the movie, we see Hank's Jeep Cherokee which was saved for him since his departure 4-5 years earlier. The Jeep is actually a 1998 or newer model as evidenced by the rear high-mount taillight located at the top of the rear hatch instead of inside the rear window. - J. Campbell
  • Why would the package Tom Hanks delivers at the end of the movie have been on the plane to South America? The package was returning from Russia to the US as undeliverable (since the senders hubby was boinking some Russian chick)! Once it was in the states, why send it to South America? - JKessler
  • At the end of the move where Tom Hanks character is standing at the crossroads, the shadows change from pointing east, implying it's the early afternoon, to pointing west, implying it's the morning, to pointing east again... I guess they filmed that scene a few times that day. - Jon Evans
  • (Continuity) This is spooky; when Hanks is starring at the piece of the port a potty, I swear I seen Wilson move. One moment he is one spot then they show the potty and in the next shot Wilson is in another area. - TAZ

Commented Goofs

  • Chuck makes the delivery of the FedEx box, but where'd he get it? It wasn't on the raft with him. - Frank Henderson
    • Comment: There is a box on the raft with him but you can only see it in a few scenes. - Nate
  • Most every night scene was shot during the day and then made to look like night. Also in the trailer and TV spots you see Chuck (Tom Hanks) running around during the day and it the movie it's night. - kyara
    • Comment: Hate to burst your bubble, but most movies shoot their night scenes during the day and use a dark blue filter to simulate night. - Ginny
      • Correction: No, most night scenes are NOT filmed during the day - it is the directors decision and CAN be done but it is certainly NOT a standard practice... - JBone

Corrected Goofs

  • Near the end of the movie, as Chuck (Tom Hanks) is driving away, Kelly (Helen Hunt) calls out the name Jack not once but twice. There are no major characters named Jack in the movie. - slowhand-6
    • Correction: Actually, Kelly, (Helen Hunt) doesn't say Jack, she says Chuck. - kyara
  • Near the beginning of the film, Chuck complains about a toothache on the right side of his face. When he's on the island and is planning to take out this tooth with the ice skate, it's quite obvious that the left side is now the painful side. - Nate
    • Correction: If you watch it again, you'll see that when it appears that the left side of his mouth is infected, it's the reflection in the MIRROR that is viewed. This means that it's really the right side. Also, when he uses the figure skate and rock to knock the tooth out, he uses his left hand with the rock to hit the skate, which also clearly demonstrates that it's the right side of his mouth. (DVD) - Saige
